Jess Hoyt: Marketing and Studio Library Associate at Saltwater Home

Background

As a young girl, I had the dream of becoming an interior designer. I used to draw my dream rooms on a sketch pad. I had a notebook full of my own interior design studies and research. I played Sims, just to design and build my dream house. I entered contests on a room designing website, imagining a time when I would have the chance to do that work in real life. After 5 years of experience in business, photography, marketing, and design, I decided to reach out to local Interior Designers in search of a career. After meeting Annie for the first time, I knew this job was my dream come true. I am thrilled to be working with the team at Saltwater Home and can’t wait to see what the future holds for me here.

Coastal Living

I grew up in a log cabin hand-built by my dad, in a small populated town in the northern mountains of Maine. Half of my life was spent outside, barefoot in the garden, jumping off a boat in the lake, or snow tubing down the hills. I rarely left our little community. After high school, I realized my career goals were never going to allow me to stay in the small secluded town. I moved 4 hours away from my family, to the seaside of Maine, to gain new experiences and follow my passions. As a single mother, it was very challenging and completely terrifying, but I have learned that you must take that leap of faith if you want to grow! When I first got here, I was afraid of the ocean. Now I can’t get enough of it! I feel like I truly do have the best of both worlds, and all the inspiration at my fingertips. Although I still hold home close to my heart, I am in love with the feeling of the coast. The colors of the seagrass, the sound of the waves, the smell of the salty air, and the feeling of freedom inspire me. Living on the coast in Maine feels so fresh and safe. I love all of the New England Coastline so much.

On working with clients

I love the tangible aspects of the process. I enjoy being able to show samples of fabric, finish, and textures to clients to help them imagine their new space. My favorite part of any project is install-day, where we finally get to see, feel, and photograph the new space created between us and the client’s vision. It is a privilege to be a part of this process.

Down Time

Aside from my full-time position at Saltwater Home, I own a successful photography business. I love this side career, as it enables me to feel the love of others, travel the coast of New England, and gather inspiration. Some other hobbies I have are; watercolor paint, graphic design, playing fixer-upper, and spending time with family.
