Jessica Nannery: Designer at Saltwater Home

Background

I studied at Mount Ida College in Newton, MA, and received a BS in Interior Design. From there I spent the first 6 years of my career at the Boston Design Center working as a liaison between New England's premier designers and globally recognized manufacturers. During my time in Boston, one of the designers with whom I developed a close relationship presented an opportunity to bring me back to my home state and help with a new business venture in Wells, ME - Anthony Catalfano Home. I spent the next 8 years as his design assistant while also running the retail shop. This world-class learning experience allowed me to follow my dreams in high-end interior design and provided the tools, vision, and unique perspective needed for success in the industry.

Education & Credentials

In addition to 15 years of experience in high-end design, I have a BS in Interior Design from Mount Ida College in Newton, MA.

Inspiration

Nature provides a great deal of my inspiration. I find ideas flow more freely after a walk through the park or time at the beach. From the pops of color at sunrise to intricate details in an old stone wall are some of the things that impact my creativity. Channeling these ideas into beauty for clients is my favorite part. But it is the process of turning “houses into homes” that I truly love about my work. Working together with clients to enhance their initial vision and follow the process to fruition is extremely rewarding.

On Working With Clients

To understand the function of a home, you must first establish relationships with those using it. It’s these relationships that I’ve built over the years that are my favorite aspect of working with clients. Learning about their lives and developing the trust needed to guide them through the process is what I value the most.

Coastal Living

Living in Boston provided me with a new appreciation for the Maine way of life. Being close to the coast in a tight-knit community gives me a sense of security that I grew to miss in the city. Moving back to Maine to grow my career and start a family has been a dream.

Seeds of Inspiration

One of my best friends growing up was the daughter of a home builder. To keep us busy after school, he would sit us down with construction documents and tracing paper. We would spend hours drawing in furniture, moving walls, then her older sister would critique our work. My friend now flips homes in California and her father has since retired.

While not designing the home of your dreams, you can find me at the beach with my husband Patrick, 2 young sons Calvin and Declan, and beloved French Bulldog, Coco.
